In these trying times we want you to know that we are thinking about you and hope that you and your families are well. As you may be aware Prides worldwide planned for the spring and early summer have been either postponed or canceled due to the pandemic. After consulting with community leaders, city officials, business owners and community members we have determined that it is too early to postpone the festival at this time. Given that the Jersey City LGBTQ+ Pride Festival is scheduled for late August we are hopeful that we will be able to proceed as scheduled. We are working with the city and health department officials to determine if we can safely have the festival on August 22, and for now we are still a go. If we have to postpone the street festival we have a couple of contingency plans we can put in place including moving the festival date to the early fall, but first and foremost please know that any decisions made will be guided by the city and our local and state health officials.
We know that some of you may be struggling financially and that this event may help you get back on your feet. With that in mind we have decided to offer vendors the possibility of paying in installments if needed. If for any reason we are forced to postpone the street festival until 2021, our 20th anniversary, we will give you the option of a refund or a credit for next year and a guaranteed spot at the festival.
Gayborhood Jersey City will host the 20th Annual Jersey City LGBTQ+ Pride Festival on Saturday, August 22nd, 2020. The Festival will take place on Newark Avenue between Grove Street and Jersey Avenue in the heart of historic downtown Jersey City. The Festival is adjacent to major mass transportation: PATH to Grove Street, and locally by bus lines 1, 119, 64. The Jersey City LGBT Pride Festival celebrates the diversity of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities and allies of Hudson County and the New York City metropolitan area. Last year the official estimate of attendance at the festival was between 20,000. The Jersey City LGBT Pride Festival is recognized not only as the premier LGBT event in Hudson County, but also one of the largest festivals in the Northern New Jersey region. The events of Pride season exemplify the strength and growth of our LGBTQ+ & allied communities.
More importantly, Jersey City Pride emphasizes the importance of diversity in our community, making it stronger and more accepting of all individuals and their contributions to our society.
